The power of resiliency & perseverance: A conversation with Russell Vann

Kristen C. Eccleston, Ed. D. Season 2 Episode 12

Russell was born in the South Bronx in the late sixties to a drug-addicted mother and an absent father. Russell was raised by his great-grandmother and faced life-or-death situations daily.  Not only has Russell had to work to overcome his own spectors, but also those that his daily environment provided to him.

Russell is the author of a series of books titled Ghetto Bastard. The books served as a form of therapy and led to Russell’s realization that all of the people around him and throughout his life had been dealing with their own misfortunes. It is through his writings that Russell works to convey the message that no matter your current situation, it does not define your final destination.
